Partnership between Banca di Taranto and Taranto Cruise Port
Taranto Cruise Port, part of the Global Ports Holding network, which has been managing the cruise terminal at the Port of Taranto since 2021, has chosen BCC Banca di Taranto e Massafra and the ICCREA Group as preferred partners for financial support in future investment projects aimed at increasing cruise traffic and improving related infrastructures.
On June 28, 2022, the President of Taranto Cruise Port, Dr. Stephen Xuereb, formalized the opening of a current account in the presence of Avv. Lelio Miro, President of the Bank, and Director Dr. Andrea Previatello.
Taranto Cruise Port concluded its first year of operations with extraordinary figures: 28 calls and over 80,000 passengers. These numbers allowed the destination to enter the top 10 Italian ports by number of passengers and the top 20 Mediterranean ports.
The current year’s schedule shows a significant increase, with 54 calls and approximately 140,000 passengers, while bookings for upcoming seasons, confirming the positive trend, highlight the need for initiatives to support and sustain this growth.
“We are truly pleased to work with a local bank,” said President Stephen Xuereb. “The philosophy of the international network to which Taranto Cruise Port belongs has always recognized the importance of an approach that is both ‘global’ and ‘local’. Enhancing the territories where the group’s companies operate—from promoting landscape, historical, cultural, and culinary excellence to collaborating with institutions, authorities, and the local economic and social fabric—represents a concrete commitment also for Taranto Cruise Port.”
“It is a great honor to be the banking partner of Taranto Cruise Port,” stated President Lelio Miro. “The start of this collaboration once again highlights the vocation of Banca di Taranto e Massafra to serve the community, while at the same time, thanks to the Iccrea Cooperative Banking Group, it will be able to provide strong support for the development of Taranto Cruise Port’s strategies.”
Since 2021, Taranto Cruise Port has been part of Global Ports Holding (GPH), the world’s largest independent cruise port operator, with a consolidated presence in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Asia-Pacific regions, including significant commercial operations in Montenegro. With an integrated platform of cruise ports serving cruise ships, ferries, yachts, and megayachts, GPH manages 26 terminals in 14 countries and continues to grow steadily, providing services to 14 million passengers and achieving a 24% market share in the Mediterranean every year.
